KXAS Dallas To Add 11 A.M. News

The half-hour NBC 5 News at 11 a.m. debuts Sept. 5 with a rotating roster of anchors.

NBC-owned KXAS Dallas (DMA 5) is launching NBC 5 News at 11 a.m., a new half-hour newscast that will air weekdays starting Sept. 5.

“We see this as an opportunity to provide North Texans with more live, local news in a time period not served by another news organization,” said Tom Ehlmann, KXAS president-GM. “The 11 a.m. program is the fifth news program we’ve added to the NBC 5 or DFW Nonstop schedules this year in a continued effort to serve the needs of our community.”

NBC 5 News at 11 a.m. will be led by a solo anchor assigned from the station’s staff who will rotate duties on a regular basis. Weekend anchor/reporter Ashanti Blaize will launch the program on Sept. 5.

Since April 2011, KXAS has added four weekday news programs. On its main channel, NBC 5 First Weather debuted at 4:30 a.m. leading into the local 5-7 a.m. news. On DFW Nonstop (ch. 5.2), DFW Today Nonstop, The Rundown and Nonstop Nightly was added to the schedule.

In addition to news, KXAS is launching two new daytime programs. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, hosted by Meredith Vieira will air 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. weekdays followed by the new court show, We The People with Gloria Allred from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
