MTV Ups Garrett English To Senior Vice President

MTV has promoted Garrett English to senior vice president, executive in charge, music production for MTV. English reports to Richard Gay, SVP, executive in charge, music production, and is based in New York City.

In this role, English will continue to serve as the lead production executive for all of MTV’s tent pole on-air programs, initiatives and special events as well as continue as one of the executive producers for the MTV Movie Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, mtvU Woodie Awards, the recently announced upcoming, first-ever MTV awards show that focuses on digital music and social media, as well other live broadcast events. English leads the strategic management and execution of production, development, talent, budgeting and negotiation of production talent deals for these events.

English most recently was VP of production, executive in charge, MTV Music, specials and events.

A 16-year MTV veteran, English joined MTV in 1995 as a production manager for MTV News and Documentaries.  In 1999, he was promoted to line producer with MTV’s Music, Special and Events unit producing MTV’s tent pole event programming. In 2001, English moved to the U.K. to join the MTV Networks International team as the director of production and programming operations where he rose to the head of production and operations for MTV Networks International & MTV Networks Europe in 2003.

Before joining MTV, English worked as a municipal bond broker on Wall Street.  
English also is the co-founder and board member of the Staying Alive Foundation, a global grant-making organization dedicated to encouraging, energizing and empowering young people who are involved in HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention around the world.

English graduated from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Arts in history.
