NBC Names Durso PR VP Of New York Outlets

John Durso Jr. becomes vice president of community and communications for WNBC, WNJU as well as Cozi TV and LX.TV.

NBC-owned WNBC( NBC) and WNJU (Telemundo) New York (DMA 1) today appointed John Durso Jr. vice president of community and communications for both stations. Durso, who starts his new position today, will also oversee communications for Cozi TV, the national multicast network launched by the NBC Owned Television Stations, and LX.TV Productions, the lifestyle production arm of the NBC Owned Stations.

“John is hard-working, smart and creative, with a reputation for honesty and integrity, as well as proven experience working with the media and non-profit organizations across the Tri-State area,” said Eric Lerner, president-GM of WNBC.

Durso, a senior-level public affairs executive, brings nearly two decades of communications and community affairs experience to his new posttion. Most recently, he was director of communications and public affairs for the New York Racing Association, a position he held for the last two years.

Prior to joining the New York Racing Association, Durso was senior director and chief spokesperson at NJ Transit for three years. Durso also held leadership roles at the New York Affordable Reliable Electricity Alliance, where he was executive director for three years, and the Office of the Monroe County Executive in Rochester, where he was the director of communications for two years. Durso began his career working in various positions within the New York Governor’s Office.

Durso holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Siena College.
