No Go For Craig Ferguson Syndicated Talker

Talk isn't cheap. Tribune Media needed, but apparently couldn't get, Sinclair on board to clear and help pay for the new project for the former CBS Late Late Show host whose syndicated Celebrity Name Game just got renewed today for a second season.

It looks as if Craig Ferguson will not be resuming his talk show career in broadcast syndication, according to industry sources.

Tribune Media has been trying to find other stations groups to clear a new Ferguson show in prime access and help bear its considerable cost.

Tribune was counting heavily on the Sinclair Broadcast Group to pick up the show, but the sources say the Baltimore-based mega-group has decided to take a pass.

Spokespeople for Tribune and Sinclair were unavailable for comment.

Earlier today, it was announced that Ferguson’s game show Celebrity Name Game from Debmar-Mercury and producer FremantleMedia North America was renewed for a second season to begin this fall.

Last month, Ferguson ended a 10-year run as host of CBS’s Late Late Show, which kicks off a new season with host James Corden in March.

A half-hour talk show in prime access was going to be a hard sell with or without Sinclair.

At least he has ‘Celebrity Name Game’ to fall back on.
