Norville To Receive NYSBA Carol Reilly Award

The New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA) today announced that veteran journalist Deborah Norville will receive the Carol M. Reilly Award at the Tony Malara Awards Dinner, which will serve as the opening event of the NYSBA’s Executive Conference June 27-28 at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George.

The award, which honors the memory of the late wife of NYSBA President Joseph A. Reilly who died of cancer in 2000, is presented to a woman who encompasses general excellence, leadership and professionalism.

“This year’s award selection has been a particularly poignant process for me,” said NYSBA President Joseph A. Reilly, who will retire from his post at the end of June after more than 30 years. “Deborah Norville is not only an outstanding journalist, but also an all-around talent who is known for her journalistic integrity and professionalism. She really represents what the Carol M. Reilly Award is all about. My wife would be very pleased that the NYSBA selected Deborah for this honor.”

Norville, a native of Dalton, Ga., has served as anchor of Inside Edition, America’s top-rated nationally syndicated news magazine show, for more than 15 years. A two-time Emmy Award winner, she has covered a range of memorable stories ranging from spending five days as an inmate in a North Carolina penal institution known as the “toughest jail in America” to toiling as a dishwasher at a New York City diner.

Her broadcast TV career has included a number of reporting and anchoring positions for CBS, MSNBC and NBC News, including the Today Show. In a brief departure from TV, she hosted the nationally syndicated Deborah Norville Radio Show, which was aired via the ABC Radio Network.
