NYSB Inducts Duffy, Glickman, Musial, Scott, Others

The New York State Broadcasters will hold its 52nd Summer Conference at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City under the theme “Generation Competitionand the state’s radio and television stations will be honored for excellence in broadcasting. 

Conference agenda highlights include:

  • Sen. Charles Schumer has been selected as the group’s “2014 New Yorker of the Year.”
  • CBS This Morning co-host Norah O’Donnell will receive the “2014 Broadcaster of the Year” award at the Gala Awards Dinner on June 12.
  • BMI artist  Kacey Musgraves will be performing at the Awards Banquet on June 12.
  • Faith Jenkins will host the Awards Dinner for Excellence in Broadcasting. She is an attorney and former criminal prosecutor in Manhattan.  She is also known for her extensive legal analysis on MSNBC, CNN and Fox News. Jenkins is the host of Judge Faith, a syndicated court show set to premiere in this fall.
  • The New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame Class of 2014 inductees will be honored at a luncheon on June 13. The inductees are: John Cooper, radio broadcaster in the Capital Region and Syracuse; Nancy Duffy, pioneering TV reporter and journalist in Syracuse; Mike Francesa, legendary radio sports show host at WFAN in New York City and around the nation; Marty Glickman, pioneer sportscaster in New York City; Chris Musial, long-time station manager at WIVB-TV Buffalo; Marvin Scott,  the dean of TV journalists at WPIX New York City.
  • Fresh from his highly acclaimed Frontline documentary “Generation Like,” Douglas Rushkoff will discuss how broadcasters can reach and market to the millennial generation. He will also discuss his new book on digital media Present Shock — When Everything Happens Now. He will speak during our business sessions on Friday, June 13.
  • Adam Armbruster, senior partner, Eckstein, Summers, Armbruster & Co., will conduct an in-depth seminar on “Tier Zero” automobile marketing. Katz Radio Group EVP Mary Beth Garber will host a session on “Competing with Digital Platforms”.
  • The conference includes additional sessions focusing on engineering, audience measurement as well as an in depth discussion of issues confronting broadcasters in Washington, D.C.
