WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Phil’ And ‘Feud’ Among Syndie Standouts

The good doctor delivered an 18% increase in the week ending July 17, while Family Feud was again the top gamer with a 3% uptick to a 7.0.

Top talker Dr. Phil was the standout in the frame ending July 17, soaring 18% — the most of any strip in syndication — to a six-week high 2.6 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and pulling ahead of the red-hot Live with Kelly. Among women 25-54, Phil surged 30% and led the talkers with a 1.3 in the key demo.

Kelly, which had led or tied for the lead among talk shows for six weeks in a row, dipped 4% to a 2.5 in what was a down week for many syndicated shows due to declining summer PUT levels and preemptions for news of the July 14 Nice, France, terror attack.

Ellen DeGeneres, the No. 3 chat fest, remained at its season-low 1.7.

In access, Entertainment Tonight grew 8% to a three-week high 2.8 and finished first among magazines in a tie with sister show Inside Edition, which also picked up 8%.

Family Feud continued to lead syndication, adding 3% to a 7.0 and burying all game show competition for the 12th week in a row. Feud‘s 6.6 season-to-date household rating now tops Wheel of Fortune‘s 6.5 for first place in the genre.

In tryout news, after two weeks, The Preachers earned a 0.8 rating/2 share in 10 metered markets, even with its average lead-in and up 14% from its year-ago time periods. Among women 25-54 it was down 33% from last year’s time periods to a 0.4/3.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Not faring as well was the four-week So Me trial run in six metered markets (with double runs in New York and Los Angeles), which posted a 0.3/1 average after two weeks, declining 40% from both its lead-in and year ago time period averages. In the key demo it fell 50% from last year to a 0.2/1.

A third potential series in test mode was Page Six TV, which completed its first week in seven metered markets with a 1.0/2, down 41% from its lead-in and down 29% from its year-ago time periods. Among women 25-54 it declined 33% from its year ago time period average to a 0.6/3.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.3, +30% from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly (1.2, unchanged)
  • Maury (0.9, -10%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.9, unchanged) and Wendy Williams (0.9, unchanged)
