Raycom Applauds FCC On 3.0 Action

The new technology, CEO Pat LaPlatney says, “will help us continue to enhance our services to the communities and families that rely on us” in times of crisis.

Raycom Media said today it “commends” the FCC’s proposed rulemaking that would authorize television broadcasters to voluntarily deploy the next generation, IP-based television broadcasting standard technology ATSC 3.0. This new standard will allow the integration of IP-based services and platforms, combining the advantages of broadcasting and the internet.

Raycom Media President-CEO Pat LaPlatney stated: “We applaud the efforts of the FCC, Pearl TV and other like-minded broadcasters to embrace this important move of the FCC. We can’t fall behind on technology or our ability to provide the very best experience and services to our viewers who count on us every day.”

LaPlatney continued, “Just in the last couple of weeks as storms have created severe damage in the Southeast, our local Raycom Media stations throughout the affected areas, but especially WDAM in Hattiesburg, Miss., and WALB in Albany, Ga., warned viewers of the impending danger, kept them alerted throughout the storms and have raised to date over $585,000 for relief efforts in Hattiesburg and Albany. Local broadcasters make a difference and the new ATSC 3.0 standard will help us continue to enhance our services to the communities and families that rely on us.”
