The head of Raycom’s CBS affiliate in South Carolina is ending her 38-year broadcasting career today.

After 17 years of service as vice president and general manager of Raycom Media’s CBS affiliate WCSC Charleston, S.C. (DMA 94), Rita Scott has decided to close out her 38-year career in broadcasting. Her last day at WCSC is today, April 1.

“Rita loves Charleston and the people of Charleston, her passion for place and community has been infused into the staff at WCSC throughout the years, it shows in everything they do from community events to the news coverage they provide every day.” said Paul McTear, Raycom Media president-CEO. “We appreciate all Rita has done for us, a job well done. I wish Rita and her husband Leon nothing but happiness as she enjoys a well-deserved retirement.”

Scott was born in High Point, N.C., where she started her career in sales at WGHP. She went on to work in Cleveland, Chicago and Charlotte. She came to Charleston and WCSC originally as national sales manager in 1994. She rose to general sales manager in 1998 and then VP-GM in 1999.

“Rita Scott has always reflected the best qualities of Charleston itself. She is charming, competitive, resilient, ambitious and gracious.” said Don Richards, Raycom Media Group VP. “Thankfully she will continue to be a part of our WCSC extended family for years to come.”

“I have been blessed to be surrounded by an amazing and talented staff. Every day you see the joy they bring into the station and the care they feel for Charleston. It has truly been a blessing to be a part of that,” Scott said.

When Rta, Quinn Koontz, Mike Morris, Ken Foote, Dave Whitaker, Jim Fletcher, Dave Farshing, Charlie Davis, Leo Derrick, and myself were all beginning our broadcast careers at WGHP, Rita was the belle of our motley ball. In the words of us all, Rita, “Hey Baybee”, you’ve earned this retirement more than anyone I know because we’ve all leaned on your for counsel, wisdom, humor, love, and friendship. Plus Quinn and I kept GO GO alive!!! God Speed Rita Moore Littles Scott, I know that Ervin and Dot, and those wonderful Moore sisters are all incredibly proud of you, as your countless friends are. Love you Baybee. . .Dennis in Da Ham
