Sony Clears ‘Rules’ In 75% Of U.S.

Starting in fall 2012, the CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement will be shown on WPIX New York, KCAL Los Angeles and WCIU Chicago as well as stations owned by Belo, Sinclair, Hearst, Local, Meredith, Capital and Titan.

The CBS series Rules of Engagement has cleared 75% of the country for its off-net debut in 2012, according to Sony Pictures Television.

The series — a comedy about the different phases of male/female relationships — will air in syndication in 19 of the top 20 markets, including the top three, a Sony spokeswoman said Thursday.

Starting in fall 2012, Rules will be shown on WPIX, the Tribune-owned CW affiliate in New York; CBS’s KCAL Los Angeles; and WCIU, Weigel’s  Chicago independent.

In addition to Tribune, CBS and Weigel, the Belo, Sinclair, Hearst, Local, Meredith, Capital and Titan station groups have bought the series.

Rules of Engagement looks at the complexities of dating, commitment and marriage through the eyes of two married couples and their single friend, all at different stages of their own relationships. The series aired for five seasons.

Tom Hertz, Doug Robinson and Jack Giarraputo serve as executive producers on Rules of Engagement which is produced by Happy Madison Productions and CBS Television Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television
