‘Steve Harvey’ Renewed Through 2016

The freshman talk hit, which was already renewed for its second season in national syndication earlier this year, has now been extended for additional seasons through 2016 with station group renewals led by the NBC Owned Television Stations.

NBCUniversal has renewed its hit syndicated talk show Steve Harvey in 65% of the country through 2016, the syndicator announced this morning. The renewal includes in major markets on NBC Owned Television Stations where the show is paired up in afternoons with Warner Bros.’ Ellen.

Steve Harvey, which was already renewed for its second season in national syndication earlier this year, has now been extended for additional seasons through 2016 with station groups including the NBC Owned, Hearst, Cox, Media General, FOX, Sinclair, Gannett, Local TV, Allbritton, LIN, Nexstar and Raycom.

“Steve is one of the best entertainers in the country and his first season has been a tremendous success because of the personal connection he makes with the daytime audience,” said Ted Harbert, chairman of NBC Broadcasting, in a statement. “It’s so great to see Steve’s very funny and substantive show being rewarded with long-term commitments from our station partners.”

The renewal isn’t a complete surprise. Steve averaged a 0.9 rating among women 25-54 this past season, tied with Disney-ABC’s higher profile Katie. The shows tied in the demographic at No. 7 among all talk shows with Debmar-Mercury’s Wendy Williams in that demographic.

“Steve Harvey’s engaging, funny and warm style has been a hit with our audiences, and we couldn’t be happier to continue our partnership with Steve and his great team,” said Valari Staab, president, NBC Owned Television Stations in a statement. “Steve Harvey has strengthened our daytime lineups and proven to be a strong lead in to Ellen’ and, in turn, our local newscasts.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In its premiere season, Steve Harvey has become one of the most successful new first-run syndication launches in the past decade.

In the May 2013 sweep according to NBC, Steve Harvey was the  No.1 new first-run show among the women 18-49 and women 25-54 demos nationally, and was the only new show to build over its lead-in and improve the year ago time period. Across the metered markets in May, Steve Harvey was up over its lead-in by 24% in households, and 25% with women 25-54. Compared to the May 2012 time period average, Steve Harvey showed a 44% increase in households and was up 42% among women 25-54.
