WISH Honors ‘I Love To Read’ Challenge Participants

For a quarter century, Media General’s CW affiliate WISH Indianapolis (DMA 27) has challenged Central Indiana students to read more through the “I Love to Read” challenge. The 2015 winners and participants will be recognized Tuesday, April 21, at The Children’s Museum at 10:30 a.m. WISH anchors Eric Halvorson and Lori Wilson will emcee the ceremony with special guest, Indiana First Lady Karen Pence.

The “I Love to Read” challenge was conducted from Jan. 5 to Feb. 27.  Students in grades K-3 reading at least 1,200 minutes, in grades 4-8 reading at least 2,500 minutes, and classrooms that averaged 1,000 minutes were eligible for prizes.

This year, 100 schools representing 1,277 classes and 30,487 students signed up for the challenge. Approximately 3,000 students met the challenge minutes. All participating students will receive a certificate signed by First Lady Pence, Governor Mike Pence and WISH General Manager Les Vann. Those students who achieved the reading challenge minutes will receive a gold seal for their certificate.

Winning students and classrooms will be invited on stage to receive their prize and have a photo taken with the First Lady and sponsor representatives. The Children’s Museum is providing all winners the opportunity to enjoy the museum free of charge, after the ceremony and is providing a celebratory reception. All winners will receive a prize pack from the Indiana Historical Society.
