WNYW Beefs Up News Lineup For Summer

Byron Harmon, the Fox New York O&O news director: “Our new summer schedule continues our mission to bring unconventional local news to New York. We intend to give our viewers something different and solidify WNYW as the destination for relevant, unexpected and fun content. Local news doesn’t have to be all gloom and doom.”

On June 5, Fox-owned WNYW New York (DMA 1) will launch an all new summer schedule with several news additions, including a new, interactive 6 p.m. weekday newscast, expanded weekend news and several branded summer series, celebrating summer in New York.

We intend to give our viewers something different and solidify WNYW as the destination for relevant, unexpected and fun content. Local news doesn’t have to be all gloom and doom.”

The new evening news talent lineup will feature Dari Alexander and Steve Lacy co-anchoring Fox 5 News at 5:00 p.m.; Ernie Anastos anchors Fox 5 News at 6:00 p.m.; and Dari Alexander and Steve Lacy co-anchor Fox 5 News at 10:00 p.m.

The additions:

New 6 p.m. newscast — Ernie Anastos will solo anchor, alongside meteorologist Nick Gregory and sports anchor Russ Salzberg. Audrey Puente will step outside her usual role of meteorologist and serve as a reporter, along with entertainment reporters Simone Boyce and Christal Young. Original reporting and interviews will capture a wide-range and eclectic group of topics from lifestyle, social issues, family, wellness and education, to headlines of the day.

Friday Night Live (10:30-11 p.m.) — Friday Night Live will consist of a live Friday night celebration each week, incorporating a mix of entertainment, nightlife, food and wine segments, musical performances and celebrity guest interviews. Local food, beaches, concerts, entertainment and travel segments will also be showcased.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Weekend News Expansion — WNYW will now provide hourly weekend morning news updates on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Fox Docs This is a three-episode documentary summer series, examining three major issues facing New York City. Each documentary will air during Fox 5 News at 5 p.m. on various weekend newscasts and on www.myfoxny.com

Backstory This show offers a behind-the-scenes look at news stories, from the moment the station receive a news tip, all the way through the editing process to the finished story.
