WOFL-WRBW Orlando Add Lions MLS Games

Orlando City Soccer Club and Fox-owned WOFL (Fox)-WRBW (MNT) Orlando, Fla. (DMA 18), today announced a multi-year partnership in which the stations will be exclusive English-language local broadcast home for the Lions.

The agreement gives WOFL-WRBW telecast rights to all Orlando City regular season and playoff matches not aired by Major League Soccer’s national television partners.

“This is a landmark day for Orlando City fans,” said Lions President and Founder Phil Rawlins. “We look forward to working closely with our partners at FOX 35 to create, not only a first class broadcast for our fans, but additional in-market promotions and opportunities to bring them closer to their club and the players on the field.”

Added Allyson Meyers, WOFL-WRBW VP-GM: “We look forward to working in partnership with the Orlando City Soccer Club. Together, we will create the ultimate fan experience across multiple platforms in Orlando.”

The club expects to announce a local radio and Spanish-language television partner in the near future.

The Orlando City Lions had 2 Championships (2011 and 2013) in the 4 years they were in the USL. I firmly believe that the Lions will have a better than average rookie season in the MLS, and I look forward to watching their games on FOX35 and My65.

Still you wonder who’s paying who, and will blackouts apply, and will the (few) national deals take prencendence?
