WPMT Harrisburg Adds 6 p.m. Newscast

Beginning Jan. 9, the Tribune Fox affiliate in Pennsylvania’s capital will add a new half-hour to it supplement its 6:30 broadcast.

Tribune Fox affiliate WPMT Harrisburg Pa. (DMA 41), is introducing a new evening newscast: Fox43 News at 6. Positioned with the station’s current Fox43 News at 6:30, this new broadcast gives Central Pennsylvanians an hour of local news every weeknight evening. Fox43 News at 6 debuts Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, and will be anchored by longtime WPMT journalists Evan Forrester and Heather Warner.

The station launched its 6:30 p.m. newscast two years ago. “The successful launch of our 6:30 newscast has led us to launch an additional half hour at 6,” said WPMT GM Robert Furlong. “Our station has done nothing but increase our focus on locally produced newscasts. We’ve gone from a single half hour at ten o’clock, a then-untested time period, to becoming an established news force with broadcasts around the clock.”

This addition creates six-and-a-half hours of news every weekday. Add in the weekend installments of Fox43 News at 10 and the total rises to over 34 hours of locally produced news every week.

“At Fox43 News, we are all about choice,” said News Director Chris Holden. “We want to give viewers the choice to get the news when it fits their schedule. With multiple newscasts in the morning, evening and night, plus our robust Facebook and online presence, we’re confident that we deliver the news when and how Pennsylvanians need it.”

In actual fact they are a York, PA station, not Harrisburg. It’s a hyphenated market. They cover Harrisburg but are not located there.

They are part of the Harrisburg DMA and all stations in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York DMA are referred to as Harrisburg stations.
