Fox Rebrands WFTC, Adds 7 P.M. Newscast

The Minneapolis My Network TV affiliate will be known as Fox 9+. In addition to the new evening newscast, it will also rebroadcast co-owned KMSP’s 10 p.m. news at 11.

Effective immediately, the co-owned sister station to Fox O&O KMSP Minneapolis — MNT affiliate WFTC — will be rebranded “Fox 9+.” As part of the station’s rebranding efforts, it will launch a daily 7 p.m. primetime local newscast named Fox 9+ News at 7, set to debut on Sept. 18.

In making the announcement, VP-GM Sheila Oliver said: “A big part of our future is integrating the success we’ve had at Fox 9 across all media brands, including expanding our broadcast footprint. On Fox 9+, viewers will enjoy more options for news and entertainment at non-traditional times, which is more in line with how audiences are watching television these days.”  

Anchored by Naomi Pescovitz, the 30-minute weekday newscast will be the only local, over-the-air TV news broadcast offered in the market at 7 p.m., according to the station. It will focus on the top seven stories at 7 p.m. WFTC will also begin airing repeats of Fox 9 News at 10 p.m. each night at 11 p.m.

Pescovitz most recently was an anchor and reporter at WTHR Indianapolis. Prior to that, she was a reporter and fill-in anchor for KSTP St. Paul. Pescovitz began her career as a reporter for KVOA Tucson, Ariz.
