Welcome to the party, WDSU.

“The noon news expansion allows our viewers more opportunities to receive the news of the day at times that are convenient for their busy lives.”

I believe they have had that opportunity for years from WWL-TV and WVUE-TV.

Hearst has got plenty of money. What convinced you to join the party?

“What convinced you to join the party?”
The additional political revenue that doesn’t have to be shared with a syndicator, that’s what.

      I don’t buy that.

Political goes away after November 6th, and you still have a noon newscast to sell.

Your theory works if stations sell political 24-7-365.

Dump WDSU in ABC’s lap. ABC gets a super upgrade from WGNO. If 6 doesn’t go Mickey Mouse their commitment to going news-intensive is sure to be flatlined!

They were ABC (and also CBS, NBC, and DuMont) until 1957 (WWL) and 1958 (WVUE).
I’m sure ABC would love to have an older, established outlet in New Orleans, but I don’t see a bidding war for WDSU.
“Show me the money” worked many years ago in Atlanta, Charlotte, Minneapolis, Knoxville, Toledo, Indianapolis, Louisville, Idaho Falls and San Diego… ABC went in and threw tons of money at the owners of the NBC stations in all those cities (and the CBS station in Louisville), and all 9 of them switched to ABC-TV…. later ABC-Cap Cities…. later ABC The Mouse.

In today’s economy, the financial gains don’t come as quickly.
