NBCLX To Present ‘Xploration Mars Week’ Beginning Feb. 15

NBCLX, NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ TV and streaming network designed for adults 18-45, will present comprehensive Xploration Mars Week coverage of NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover’s mission to Mars, beginning Feb. 15. Xploration Mars Week will be highlighted by 1.5 hours of live coverage of the Red Planet landing Feb. 18, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

As part of Xploration Mars Week, audiences can watch NBCLX’s LX News — which airs live weekdays from 8 to 10 a.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. ET — for special features leading up to and after the landing. Key storylines throughout the week will include: the purpose of space program, the objectives of the mission, and an interview with NASA lead design engineer Bill Allen, who will deliver details regarding the Perseverance Rover and the Mars Helicopter, which will test the first powered flight on Mars.

NBCLX’s live coverage of the Mars landing on Feb. 18 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ET will include live feeds from the Perseverance Rover and live video from NASA master control as the rover touches down on the Red Planet. NBCLX will also be onsite at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., to provide in-depth analysis, special reports and interviews with key NASA personnel as the rover begins its search for traces of life.

The Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover launched July 30, 2020, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and is travelling 293 million miles to its destination in the Martian northern hemisphere’s Jezero Crater. Once there, the rover will conduct surface operations for at least one Mars year, equivalent to 687 Earth days, to search for ancient life, gather rock and soil samples, and pave the way for future human missions to Mars.
