The group broadcaster and Time Warner Cable come to terms on retransmission consent agreements in 14 markets.
Hearst, TWC Reach Retrans Deal
Hearst Television Inc. announced Thursday evening that it has reached a retransmission consent agreement with Time Warner Cable covering carriage of the following Hearst Television stations:
- KETV Omaha
- KITV Honolulu
- KMBC-KCWE Kansas City
- WCVB Boston
- WESH-WKCF Orlando
- WISN Milwaukee
- WLKY Louisville
- WLWT Cincinnati
- WMOR Tampa
- WMTW Portland, Maine
- WMUR Boston
- WPTZ Burlington, Vt.-Plattsburgh, N.Y.
- WTAE Pittsburgh
- WXII Greensboro-Winston Salem, N.C.
“We appreciate the support and patience of our viewers, advertisers and local communities served by our stations, and we regret the inconvenience they’ve experienced over the past 10 days,” said Hearst Television President-CEO David Barrett. “This process has been an important step to insure the ongoing vitality of our local TV service in communities across the country.”

And the losers once again will be the Subscribers, who will get hit with higher fees. No thanks. I’ve been without Pay-TV for over five years, and I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.

So Hearst gets a little more money per subscriber and the customers bill goes up 5 or 10 times that amount. Then TWC blames all of the increase on Hearst. Consumers should really be able to see what they are paying per channel.

What consumers should be able to do is not pay a dime for OTA channels – and choose/pay a reasonable fee for the 20 or so cable channels they actually watch.

Customers CAN watch OTA channels without paying a dime. It’s called an antenna. Who needs cable!?!

The whole retrans battle is way over due for a re-write. OTA should be OTA…we should pay them nothing…they are getting the antenna service of the cable operators…that’s enough of a trade…it’s what they need to sell advertising…enough said. Don’t pass yourself off as a broadcaster…when clearly broadcasting is not what it was in the 70’s when this all started. Cable isn’t the bad guy here…they kept all these stations viable for years…because without cable antenna service…no one would be able to watch OTA TV in the first place…get over it!
