WPHL Expands 10 P.M. News To An Hour

The longer local newscast produced by WPVI Philadelphia will begin airing seven days a week starting Sept. 8.

Tribune-owned  MNT affiliate WPHL Philadelphia (DMA 4) said today it is expanding its 10 o’clock news produced by ABC O&O WPVI to one hour beginning Monday, Sept. 8.

On Monday-Friday, the show is anchored by Brian Taff and Shirleen Allicot, with Meteorologist Adam Joseph and Ducis Rodgers handling local sports. Walter Perez, Meteorologist Melissa Magee and Jeff Skverskey will continue to deliver news, AccuWeather forecasts and sports on hour-long weekend editions.

“In the last two years, we’ve seen substantial growth with Action News at 10 on PHL17,” says WPHL VP-GM Vince Giannini. “To become the most watched news at 10 p.m. in July is a testament to the power Action News.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity for 6abc and PHL17 to expand and give the viewers more of the news they want,” says WPVI President-GM Bernie Prazenica.

Immediately following Action News at 10 on WPHL will be Modern Family, at its new 11 p.m. time period beginning Sept. 8.
