Bill Dallman Named KCBS-KCAL News Dir.

Veteran local and national news executive Bill Dallman has been named vice president and news director of KCBS and KCAL, the CBS-owned duopoly in Los Angeles. He succeeds Scott Diener who left the stations in June.

This latest position for Dallman, who’s had a nearly 30-year career in television news organizations, will start in early September. He will be responsible for overseeing a news department that produces more than 60 hours of local newscasts on a weekly basis.

Dallman is returning to local television news after having spent the past two years as VP of news at Fox Sports 1, based in Los Angeles, where he has been as a member of the management team that launched the national sports channel in August 2013.

Prior to moving to Southern California two years ago, Dallman spent seven years as VP of news at KMSP Minneapolis-St. Paul, and seven years as VP of vews at KDVR Denver, where he oversaw the creation of the station’s news department.

Dallman began his career in news management as news director at WZZM Grand Rapids, Mich. His background also includes five years as an executive producer in the news department at KXTV Sacramento, Calif., and five years as a newscast producer at KSTP Minneapolis-St. Paul.

He began his news career as a reporter and anchor at KAAL Austin, Minn., where he started the station’s Rochester, Minn., bureau.

Dallman earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Wisconsin.
