KHOU Taps Sally Ramirez To Head News

The assistant ND at KGW Portland, Ore., becomes executive news director at Tegna’s CBS affil in Houston. She will be joined this summer by her husband, Russ Lewis, who joins KHOU’s anchor team.

Tegna-owned CBS affiliate KHOU Houston (DMA 10) has hired Sally Ramirez as executive news director, effective in mid-March.

Ramirez who succeeds Phil Bruce, comes to KHOU after serving as assistant news director at Tegna’s KGW Portland, Ore., since 2012.

Ramirez started her career in El Paso, Texas, as a producer at KTSM. She later worked as a producer at KVOA Tucson, Ariz., and at WRC Washington. Ramirez also worked as an executive producer at WGN Chicago, and as a special projects producer at KCRA Sacramento, Calif. She joined KGW in 1998 as an executive producer before being promoted to assistant news director at the station.

Ramirez graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She is married to Russ Lewis, co-anchor of KGW News at Sunrise, who will also be joining KHOU this summer.
