WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Verdict’s In: ‘Judge Judy’ Tops In 2016-17

In addition to winning the final week of the season, the court juggernaut was also the highest rated show in both first run and offnet for the entire 2016-17 season, taking that honor for the fourth year in a row.

Judge Judy continued to show the rest of syndication no mercy, easily overruling all rivals in the session ending Aug. 27. Judy rose to a nosebleed-level 6.8 live-with-same-day national Nielsen rating, with more than 9.6 million daily viewers, its biggest rating since the May sweep, and was the No. 1 show in syndication for the 11th time in 12 weeks.

Not surprisingly, Judy was also the highest rated show in both first run and offnet for the entire 2016-17 season, taking that top honor for the fourth year in a row.

Among talk shows, Dr. Phil continued to pull away from the field for the 51st consecutive week, despite being in reruns. Phil gained 4% from the previous session to a nine-week high 2.9, and grew 26% from last year, which was the strongest annual increase of any talker.

Live with Kelly and Ryan, which was on hiatus, dipped 5% to a 1.9 with repackaged shows, but snared sole possession of second place for a 13th straight week.

Worth noting was a 13% weekly increase for Harry Connick Jr.’s newcomer Harry, and a 13% year-to-year boost for true crime series Crime Watch Daily, which also shot up 25% among women 25-54. Both shows were in repeats but nonetheless scored a 0.9 in households.

In the metered markets, Steve Harvey debuted the new version of his successful talk show, Steve, which relocated to Los Angeles and moved up 50% from last week to a 0.6 rating/4 share in the key women 25-54 demo on Tuesday, Sept 5. In households, Steve scored a 1.2/3 for the opener.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Back in the national ratings, magazine leader Entertainment Tonight featured coverage of the live and death of comic icon Jerry Lewis and climbed to a nine-week high 2.8, up 4%.
