Syndies Soar As Feb. Sweep Gets Underway

Many of the top courtrooms, talk shows, magazines and games tie or top season bests in the week ending Feb. 3.

The sweep got underway in the session ending Feb. 3 and most of syndication got off to a flying start with a majority of shows matching or exceeding their highest ratings of the season.

Leading the way was Judge Judy, which was on fire, leaping to a new season-high 7.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and easily finishing first among all programs for an epic 30 weeks in a row.

Another strong showing came from sister courtroom Hot Bench, which climbed to new season-high 2.6 and was the No. 3 strip in daytime after only Judy and Dr. Phil.

The biggest talk shows also jumped into record territory for the syndication year. Phil grew 6% to a new season-high 3.3 and topped the talkers for the 126th consecutive week.

Live with Kelly and Ryan raced to a new season-high 2.5, spiking 4% for the week and improving 9% from last year. That tied Ellen DeGeneres, which kept pace with Live, also adding 4% to a new season-high 2.5

Other talk shows coming on strong among the top five were Maury at a 1.5 and Steve Harvey’s Steve right behind at a 1.4, with both shows maintaining their best ratings of the season.

The entertainment magazines were also hot, following the Jan. 27 SAG Awards, with almost every show at its highest ratings level of the season:

Entertainment Tonight advanced 3% to a 3.2.

Access was solid at its season-high 1.4, tying TMZ, which moved up 8 to a new season-high 1.4.

Extra maintained its season-high 1.2.

Daily Mail TV delivered a series-best 1.1 for the third straight week while soaring 20% among women 25-54.

Page Six TV surged 17%, matching its season-high 0.7.

Elsewhere, Wheel of Fortune added 3% to a new season-high 7.1 and was all alone at the top of the game shows for a fourth consecutive week, while the off-net Dateline strip remained at its 10-week high 1.4 and led the true crime category for the 21st week in a row.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.1, +10%)
