Telepictures is developing a first-run syndicated strip based on a segment of the TV mag Extra, possibly for fall 2010. Warner Bros. is not pitching the show yet, but is reportedly talking about it.
Telepictures Productions is developing a first-run strip for Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution called Lifechangers, likely for fall 2010, according to TV station executives and reps.
Lifechangers is based on a recurring segment on Warner Bros.’ Extra. On Lifechangers, experts including psychologist Dr. Gabriel Crenshaw help guests overcome personal problems, such as financial issues and illness.
Telepictures declined to comment.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson also declined comment, saying the syndicator’s current focus is on clearing MomLogic for fall 2010. That show is based on the momlogic.com Web site and stars Food Network’s Paula Deen and Jon & Kate Plus 8’s Kate Gosselin.
“Warner has not presented Lifechangers, the series, to stations at this time,” says Bill Carroll, vice president and director of programming at Katz Television Group. “But we’ve heard they are developing it independent of Extra. Many people in the industry are the under the impression they are developing a program with this concept.”
Eli Davidson, a Los Angeles-based life coach, also says such a show is being considered for a syndication rollout. Davidson, who shot segments for Lifechangers in August and again a couple of weeks ago, says the show sets out to improve the lives of its guests.
“They’re giving people tools for change,” she says. “I commend them for that.”
