Changes Coming For Fusion’s TV Strategy

Fusion, the multimedia company formed from a joint investment of Univision and Disney-ABC, is preparing an overhaul of its television business strategy. Fusion’s in-house-produced television programming will be pared back, and job cuts will be part of the TV strategy shift, sources said. The changes could be announced as early as this week.

USA Network will not air the Mr. Robot season finale on Wednesday as planned due to the shootings in Roanoke, Va. “The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia,” the network said in a statement. “Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time.”

Nearly a quarter of consumers who subscribe to pay TV made changes to their subscriptions over the past year. But that news isn’t as bad as one might expect. According to Parks Associates, of those who made changes to their service, 11% cut or downgraded their packages — but 9% upgraded their subscriptions to include more channels, premium channels or some sort of new technology, like a DVR.
