Last week, Belden / Grass Valley announced it had closed the acquisition of Snell Advanced Media without listing the price. Yesterday, Belden said in a filing with securities regulators that it paid $75.8 million plus the assumption of $18.4 million of debt for a company it acquired on Feb. 8 (the same day it confirmed the SAM acquisition).
Belden today closed the acquisition of Snell Advanced Media. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal makes Grass Valley one of the largest media technology suppliers.

Snell Advanced Media (SAM) has appointed former Tandberg Television President Eric Cooney as president and CEO. The appointment will see Tim Thorsteinson step down as CEO after two years in that role for personal reasons which, in the near to medium term, limit his ability to travel.
Many agree master control and playout are headed to the cloud. But there is less agreement about the timing. While industry consolidation is spurring continued interest in centralizing master control and playout in the cloud, factors like looming UHD rollouts and satisfaction with channel-in-a-box and integrated playout solutions likely mean a mix of solutions will be deployed for some time. Perhaps the trends in master control that will receive the most attention at the NAB Show will be the role of IP transport as an attractive alternative to baseband signal distribution and routing.
