Anchor Carlos Suarez Joins WTVJ Miami News

NBC-owned WTVJ Miami (DMA 16) today named Carlos Suarez weekend morning news anchor. Suarez will anchor the NBC 6 Today newscasts at 6 and 9 a.m. on Saturdays and at 7 and 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.

He will make his on-air debut on Saturday, July 13, alongside meteorologist Steve MacLaughlin.

Suarez joins WTVJ from WPLG Miami, where he has been an anchor/reporter.  Prior to this, he worked as a reporter at WINK Ft. Myers, Fla.

Some of Suarez’s most notable news coverage while at WPLG includes coverage of Pope Francis’ historic visit to the U.S., the United Nations General Assembly meeting between President Obama and Raul Castro in New York and a week-long series on the economic challenges facing Puerto Rico in 2015.

During his time at WLPG, Suarez also covered major severe weather events that have highly impacted the South Florida market including Hurricane Irma.

Suarez has received two Emmy awards for his coverage of the Stoneman Douglas mass shooting and the FIU bridge collapse. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from Florida International University.
