Mission Broadcasting’s CW affiliate WPIX New York today added four-time national Emmy-winning journalist Kendis Gibson to the anchor desk of PIX11 News at 4 and 5 PM.

During a distinguished career in both local and network television news, Gibson’s journalism career led him to Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, where he narrowly escaped minutes before the first Tower fell. Throughout the years, he has provided coverage of important political races, from Barack Obama’s historic ascent to the presidency in 2008 and Donald Trump’s surprising 2016 victory, to Joe Biden’s triumph in 2020.

He has anchored network television coverage of major news events, including the mass shootings in Las Vegas, El Paso and the Pulse Nightclub. His extensive experience includes network positions with ABC, MSNBC, CNN and at iconic stations including WJLA Washington and WFOR Miami.

Born in Belize, Central America, Gibson and his family immigrated to Brooklyn, where he grew up in Crown Heights. A globetrotter with a passion for languages, he has explored more than 50 countries and studied languages including French, Spanish, and recently, Italian.
