Tom Skilling, WGN-TV Chicago’s Chief Meteorologist, To Be Honored Throughout February

Tom Skilling, who has forecast the weather on WGN-TV Chicago for the past 45 years, has announced that his last day as a daily Chicago television staple will be Wednesday, Feb. 28. Throughout February, WGN will air several stories and tributes throughout its newscasts on Skilling and his career.

Viewers can follow along and add their own well-wishes on social media with the hashtag #CelebratingSkilling. Coverage will also include:

Friday, Feb. 2 – Groundhog Day in Woodstock, Illinois |Tom will be on WGN Morning News LIVE from Woodstock to participate in the annual Groundhog Day event.  In the 7am hour, Tom and Woodstock Mayor Mike Turner will knock on a tree stump to wake up Woodstock Willie and read the groundhog’s prognostication.

Tuesday, Feb. 20 – Tom Skilling’s Birthday; Tom turns 72 | Tom will be joined by special guests and honored on WGN Evening News.

Thursday Feb. 22 – WGN Morning News LIVE at the Music Box Theatre with Tom Skilling | A live celebration saluting Tom and what he means to Chicago. Tom and the morning team will be joined by over 600 fans for a live broadcast from the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Free tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. CT via the Music Box Theatre here.

Wednesday Feb 28 – Retirement | Tom will be honored by cast, crew, friends, and family as WGN says goodbye to its TV legend on WGN Evening NewsWGN News at Nine and WGN News at Ten.
