Tony Perkins Joins WUSA’s ‘Get Up DC!’

Tegna’s CBS affiliate WUSA Washington (DMA 7) has added DC icon Tony Perkins to its Get Up DC!, team beginning Monday, Jan. 13.

Get Up DC! is hosted by comedian and D.C.-native Reese Waters, and anchored by fellow D.C. native Annie Yu. The show offers news, traffic, weather and trending stories “with a distinct and unique D.C. point of view.” It airs live weekdays from 5 to 7 a.m.

WUSA Michael Valentine, VP-station manager, said: “Tony co-anchored Get Up DC! for six weeks this past fall and proved to be a powerful and beloved addition to our uniquely entertaining morning show team. We couldn’t be more excited that he will be joining WUSA9 full time in 2020.”

Perkins has been a radio and TV broadcaster for 30 years. A two-time Emmy winner, he was the weatherman and feature reporter for ABC’s Good Morning America and, previously, main anchor (and formerly weatherman) for WTTG Washington.

He did stand-up in the 1980s and ’90s and was Donnie Simpson’s sidekick and producer on city’s No. 1-rated morning show for seven years at WKYS-FM. He reunited with Donnie in 2018 to co-host The Donnie Simpson Show on Radio One’s WMMJ-FM, weekday afternoons at 3-7 p.m.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In addition to joining WUSA, he still appears every weekday afternoon on The Donnie Simpson Show on WMMJ.
