WGN Promotes Demetrius Ivory To Chief Meteorologist To Succeed Retiring Tom Skilling

Demetrius Ivory

Nexstar Media’s independent WGN-TV Chicago has appointed Demetrius Ivory chief meteorologist, effective Feb. 29. His forecasts will be seen on WGN Evening News at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., as well as WGN News at Nine and WGN News at Ten.

Ivory joined the WGN Weather Center team as a meteorologist in 2013 and currently is the weather anchor for WGN Midday News and WGN Evening News at 4 p.m.

He succeeds the longtime meteorologist Tom Skilling, who is retiring at the end of February after 45 years with WGN.

“I’m so excited for Demetrius,” Skilling said. “Through weather stormy, sunny and everything in between, Demetrius has delivered accurate, compelling forecasts. He has a huge rapport with the audience. I’ve been honored to have him by my side during severe breaking weather coverage over this past decade.”

Ivory said: “It’s been an honor to work closely with an icon such as Tom, and I’m grateful to him for his leadership and guidance over these many years.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

“Chicago is a ‘weather town’ and our viewers depend on us to get it right,” commented Paul Rennie, WGN VP-GM.  “Demetrius is the natural progression of our weather team leadership.  His charisma, connection with Chicagoland, and his expert weather skills make him the ideal choice.”

Before joining WGN, Ivory was a meteorologist and weather reporter for WTAE Pittsburgh. Prior to WTAE, Ivory was a meteorologist for WYTV Youngstown, Ohio, and the chief meteorologist for WOHL Lima, Ohio.

Ivory graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in atmospheric sciences and a minor in computer science.
