DMA 1: NEW YORK

WNBC’s Ulio Acevedo Moves From P.R. To N.Y.

NBC O&O WNBC New York (DMA 1) has added bilingual journalist Julio “Gaby” Acevedo to its Tri-State reporting team. Acevedo previously led WNBC and co-owned Telemundo WNJU’s San Juan bureau where he chronicled the post-Maria rebuilding process for nearly one year. He will deliver weekday general assignment coverage for WNBC starting Friday, Nov. 2.

“Gaby told powerful stories of tragedy, rebirth and the unshakeable spirit of Puerto Rico,” said Amy Morris, WNBC VP of news. “He asked tough questions to all those in charge and led a bureau that was powerful force when the island desperately needed it. His terrific ability to tell stories connected deeply with our audience. Now, I’m excited to see that happen every day and I look forward to Gaby delivering important stories that matter to our audiences throughout the Tri-State, particularly in those communities that may not be getting the attention they need and deserve.”

Prior to joining WNBC-WNJU in 2017, Acevedo spent more than a decade working in local radio and television in Puerto Rico. He served as a news correspondent for the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee in the London 2012 and Río de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Summer Games. He also covered the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto for Telemundo.

Acevedo earned a bachelor’s degree from Colegio Marista de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico.
