WTVJ Names Dawn Clapperton VP Of News

The Miami NBC O&O promotes her from assistant news director.

NBC-owned WTVJ Miami (DMA 16) today appointed Dawn Clapperton vice president of news. She brings more than 20 years of broadcast television experience to the role. Clapperton will report to Jorge Carballo, president and general manager of WTVJ and WSCV (Telemundo).

“Dawn has an unquestionable work ethic, journalistic experience and integrity. She has done an exceptional job as NBC 6’s assistant news director and I’m confident that she and our outstanding news team will elevate our news content to new heights,” said Carballo.

A five-time regional Emmy Award winner, Clapperton joined WTVJ in September 2015 as the executive producer of investigations. She was later promoted to senior executive producer of special projects and investigations where she led a dual-station team of 15 investigative reporters, producers and photographers.

In 2018, Clapperton took on the role of assistant news director.

Her prior experience includes working for A&E’s show Cold Case Files and supervising investigative units at TV stations in Indianapolis and West Palm Beach, Fla. She has also held various newsroom roles including reporter, multimedia journalist, producer and executive producer.
