The threat of ransomware is universal across industries and organizations, but media and entertainment companies face unique challenges when planning their defenses and facilitating recovery from an attack. How they do so will be the subject of a panel, Ransomware: Unique Perspectives on Defense for the M&E Industry, at TVNewsCheck’s Cybersecurity for broadcasters Retreat at the NAB Show New York.

John McClure, CISO, Sinclair Broadcast Group; Ray Griffin, CISO, Cox Media Group; and Anthony Plosz, CTO, Graham Media Group, will join moderator Jonathan Newsome, senior director, technology, Oregon Public Media, at 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Javits Center for the discussion.

“Ransomware is the leading threat to media and entertainment industry, and as the security executives who have managed their companies’ response to ransomware attacks have learned, the industry has unique defenses,” said TVNewsCheck Publisher and Co-Founder Kathy Haley. “John, Ray and Tony will discuss the unique defenses industry leaders must employ not only to mitigate risk of undergoing a ransomware attack, but also those they must draw on to recover from one.”

The Cybersecurity for Broadcasters Retreat will run Oct. 17-18 at the Javits Center in New York City as part of the NAB New York Show. Additional panels include Managing the Media’s Expanding Security Compliance Needs; Securing Content Repositories and Media Pipelines; Engineering/IT/Security Partnering to Mitigate Risk; Leading-Edge Strategies for Securing the Network; Security and the Road to Modernizing Broadcast Technology; and Ransomware: Unique Perspectives on Defense for the M&E Industry.

The event will also include private information exchanges and an incident response simulation designed to reflect the heightened dangers broadcasters currently face.
