WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Big Bounce-Back Week For Syndies

Following a depressed Fourth of July week, most genres in syndication posted ratings gains in the week ending July 14. Among the strong performers were the majority of the entertainment magazines, talk shows, game shows and off-net sitcoms.

All of the magazines, except newcomer Dish Nation, and all of the top-tier talk shows surged in the week ending July 14.

Recovering sharply from a depressed July 4 holiday session, leader Entertainment Tonight, TMZ, Access Hollywood and Extra all rose by double digits, with Inside Edition and OMG Insider also showing good growth.

In daytime, Live with Kelly and Michael topped the talkers for a second straight week; Dr. Phil improved sharply despite being in repeats all week; Maury moved up; Dr. Oz gained as the Food and Drug Administration proposed new safety limits on toxic arsenic in apple juice, an issue made famous by the show in 2011; Ellen advanced and rookie Katie hit its highest ratings in 12 weeks.

Judge Judy gained significantly from last year and was the highest-rated show in first-run syndication for the 11th straight week even though it was in reruns all week.

The week’s top nationally rated talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Live with Kelly and Michael (1.6, up 7% from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (1.4, +17%)
  • Maury (1.3, +8%)
  • Ellen (1.2, +20)
  • Dr. Oz (1.0, unchanged) tied with Wendy Williams (1.0, -9%)
  • Katie (0.9, +29%)
  • Steve Wilkos (0.8, unchanged)

In the metered markets for first six days for the summer tryout runs of Warner Bros.’ The Real and Twentieth Television’s Kris talk shows, which began July 15, The Real (1.0 household rating/3 share) was up 25% from its year-ago time period average, while Kris (0.9/3) was down 18%.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Among women 25-54, The Real (0.8/5) was up 60% from last year’s time periods, while Kris (0.7/5) was flat.

In the women 18-49 demo, The Real (0.7/5) was up 40% compared to a year ago, while Kris (0.6/4) was flat.
