Brian Cliffe Named GM Of WCSH Portland, ME

Tegna promotes the NBC affil’s sales director to the top spot, succeeding Steve Carter who is now GM of KUSA Denver.

Tegna-owned NBC affiliate WCSH Portland, Maine (DMA 80), today appointed Brian Cliffe president and general manager.

Cliffe, who was director of sales for WCSH, will also oversee Tegna’s WLBZ Bangor, Maine (DMA 156). He replaces Steve Carter, who recently was named president-GM of KUSA Denver.

“Brian is a proven sales leader with an innovative, digital-first approach,” said Dave Lougee, president of Tegna Media. “No one knows WCSH and Portland better than Brian. He constantly puts the audience first while developing creative campaigns that better serve clients and the community. He will continue to use his innovative spirit and analytical approach in his new role.”

Cliffe had been director of sales at WCSH and WLBZ since 2009. He joined the station as an account executive in 1992. He became regional sales manager in 2007 and sales manager in 2008.

Before joining WCSH, Cliffe worked in sales and station management for several radio stations.

Cliffe has a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the State University of New York at Oswego.
