Dawn Wells Of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ Joins MeTV

Actress Dawn Wells has joined classic TV multicast network MeTV as the network’s first “marketing ambassador.” Famous and beloved for her role as Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island, Wells now sets sail to represent MeTV on the air and around the country.

Wells will serve as the MeTV marketing ambassador for the coming year at a variety of MeTV appearances, performances and events. First up, she will be the on-camera network hostess for The Summer of Me, MeTV’s annual summer programming promotion event. To celebrate, Gilligan’s Island joins MeTV’s weeknight comedy lineup at 9:30 p.m. ET, beginning Monday, May 30, Memorial Day. Wells will be featured in special promotional announcements, tune-in advertisements and interstitial elements across the network.

Unlike her TV character Mary Ann, Wells won’t be stranded on a remote island. As MeTV marketing ambassador, she will be traveling the country making personal appearances visiting MeTV affiliates and advertisers, and appearing on TV, radio, online and in print.

“It’s questionable today what some TV shows provide for our impressionable kids,” said Wells. “I’m proud to be the MeTV ambassador. MeTV is a network which airs classic family TV shows the entire family can watch together.”

“Dawn Wells is the perfect ambassador for MeTV’s family-friendly line up,” said Neal Sabin, vice chairman of MeTV parent Weigel Broadcasting Co. “Dawn is wonderful, warm and fun to spend time with … just like MeTV. We welcome her to our family and look forward to sharing new adventures with one of TV’s most loved characters.”

Wells is more than just Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island. She is also an actress, producer, motivational speaker, author, spokesperson, journalist, teacher, adventurer and chairwoman of the Terry Lee Wells Foundation — focusing on women and children in northern Nevada. She co-produced and co-hosted the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon for 15 years for the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo. She is a graduate of Stephens College and the University of Washington and is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

She has starred in more than 150 TV shows, and seven motion pictures, starring in and also narrating WinterhawkThe Town That Dreaded Sundown (with Andrew Prine), Super Sucker (with Jeff Daniels) and The New Interns, to name a few. As a producer, she brought two Movies of the Week to CBS: Surviving Gilligan’s Island and Return To The Bat Cave with Adam West. She also ran her Film Actors Boot Camp for seven years in Idaho.
