Johnny Green Named WBZ News Director

The CBS O&O in Boston promotes its assistant news director to the top slot.

CBS-owned WBZ Boston (DMA 8) today appointed Johnny Green news director. He succeeds Gary LaPlante who left the station in March.

Green joined WBZ as assistant news director in 2015. Before WBZ, Green was an executive producer for nearly three years at WCAU Philadelphia.

Prior to that, he spent three years as the nightside and special projects executive producer at WPXI Pittsburg.

He was an executive producer at WPDE Myrtle Beach, S.C., and also served as a producer for WRAL Raleigh, N.C.; and WSOC and WCNC, both Charlotte, N.C.

He began his broadcast career at WCTI New Bern, NC.

Green is a 1999 graduate of North Carolina Central University, where he earned a B.A. in history and media communications.

Owner CBS should buy two nice houses in Boston, one for general managers and one for news directors. It would be a good investment, and save on temporary housing expenses. Since the houses would change residents every 12 – 18 months this could work well for all concerned.
