The four Oregon stations owned by Patsy Smullen will switch from Petry to Katz on Sept. 15.

California Oregon Broadcasting Inc. has appointed Katz Television Group as its national TV rep. They currently are repped by Petry.

The stations are owned by Patsy Smullin who is very involved in the NAB small market group and has been a long-time member of the NBC affiliate board.

The stations involved are KOBI (NBC)-KOTI (NBC) Medford, Ore. (DMA 140), and KLSR (Fox)-KEVU-CD (MNT) Eugene, Ore. (DMA 121). The Katz move is effective Sept. 15.

The Medford stations will be repped by Eagle and the Eugene stations will be repped by Continental.

Remaining Petry clients, be warned…find a new rep right away! They won’t be around much longer.

Petry is still around. Who knew?

They don’t seem to be updating their website either. A number of the clients they list have moved to Katz or Cox. Intermountain West-moved representation then got bought out; Lockwood-gone; New Age Media-gone; Hoak-moved representation then got bought out; London-moved representation then got bought out. 75 percent of their clients still listed on their site are no longer with them.

Very sad. There are a lot of good people working at Petry and the dumb business decisions of a few are going to put them out of business very soon once and for all. Katz and COX Reps are the last two survivors. For how long, no one knows…

The imminent demise of Petry can be traced directly back to Tom Burchill and Tim McAuliff. They took a great company and ran it off a cliff.

A fully-staffed rep firm can’t survive on two small major-market independents alone.
