KMCI Adds Weekday Morning Newscast

E.W. Scripps-owned independent KMCI Kansas City (DMA 31), will broadcast a locally produced morning newscast beginning Monday, April 6. 41 Action News Today on 38 The Spot, which will air from 7 to 8 a.m., will be produced by co-owned NBC affiliate KSHB.

“We are excited to bring the energy and enthusiasm of the 41 Action News Today team to a fresh, new audience,” said Carrie Hofmann, KSHB news director.

41 Action News Today on 38 The Spot will feature Patrick Fazio and Lindsay Shively, as well as “No Wait Weather and Traffic” with meteorologist Kalee Dionne and traffic reporter Kacie McDonnell. Viewers will also see a significant amount of sports coverage, trending internet topics and videos from the 41 Action News Digital Center, and lifestyle reports for the entire family.

Hofmann said: “In addition to all of the overnight breaking news, viewers want to know about their morning commute and forecast — and we’re happy to give it to them. With the Royals and Sporting Kansas City getting ready to start their seasons, sports fans will also have plenty to talk about, and we want to serve those viewers as well.”

The Border Patrol, WHB-AM’s morning show, currently simulcast from 7 to 8 a.m. on KMCI, will move to 6 a.m.

KSHB also announced it is rearranging its weekend line-up, adding 90 minutes of news.  Beginning April 11, 41 Action News Today will run from 6 to 7 a.m., followed by NBC’s Today Show from 7 to 9 a.m., and then another hour of 41 Action News Today will run from 9 to 10 a.m.

41 Action News at 6 p.m. will expand to one hour on Saturdays. The next day, 41 Action News Today will premiere on Sundays from 6 to 7 a.m. These changes mean viewers can watch 41 Action News Today at 6 a.m., as well as The Today Show at 7 a.m., seven days a week.
