KSHB Names Mick Shaffer Sports Director

Mick Shaffer, a sports anchor with more than 15 years of experience covering sports in Kansas City, has been named sports director at E.W. Scripps-owned NBC affiliate KSHB Kansas City (DMA 33).

Shaffer is currently a sports anchor/reporter for Spectrum Sports–Kansas City (formerly Metro Sports). He replaces longtime sports anchor and current KSHB sports director Frank Boal, who is retiring on June 29.

Shaffer has covered the Kansas City Royals, the Chiefs, Sporting KC, and college athletics at the University of Kansas, as well as play-by-play duties for various high school sports in Kansas City. He also has covered sports in Topeka and Wichita.

Shaffer attended Southwestern College and the University of Kansas, where he received a bachelor of science degree in journalism. His first day at KSHB will be June 19.
