KTVK Hires Political Reporter Dennis Welch

Belo Corp.’s independent KTVK Phoenix (DMA 13) has hired veteran political reporter Dennis Welch as the station’s political editor. He begins on June 1.

In this role, Welch will report on-air, and will help oversee all aspects of the station’s political coverage across its digital platforms. Welch will also co-host the station’s political show, Politics Unplugged, with Carey Pena.

Arizona political expert Welch joins KTVK from the Arizona Guardian, an online news site dedicated to Arizona politics and government where he was owner and editor. During his Guardian days, Welch was a frequent guest on Politics Unplugged and has been a regular fixture on the state political landscape since 2005 appearing on numerous radio and television talk shows.

“Dennis gives us a first-rate political reporter who really knows Arizona’s political landscape,” says KTVK Executive New Director Brad Remington. “3TV has made a huge commitment to covering politics and government these past three years with the launch of Politics Unplugged, the staging of political debates, and improved day-to-day coverage. We believe the hiring of Dennis shows just how seriously we take this commitment.”
