KTVU Expands News With More Morning Show
Mornings on 2 at 9 a.m. will debut on Sept. 14 on Fox-owned KTVU San Francisco (DMA 6) and will be hosted by Bay Area natives Gasia Mikaelian, Mike Mibach and Sal Castaneda. It’s the station’s latest news addition; in June, KTVU also launched a 4 p.m. newscast, The Four on 2. After two months on the air, the 4 p.m. newscast became the No. 1 choice for news in that time period among adults 25-54, according to the station.
The new hour at 9 a.m. will spotlight significant news stories of the day, with a focus on local people, businesses and news. The station said the expansion “will present the news of the day in a format that will allow for viewer participation through conversations sparked on the station’s various social media channels.”
KTVU first expanded Mornings on 2 by adding an early morning newscast at 4 a.m. in April. It then boosted weekend coverage in June with the half-hour Sports Wrap at 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Since becoming a Fox owned-and-operated station in October of 2014, KTVU has added 13 hours of news and sports programming, bringing the total to 62 hours of local content per week.
