KVOA Ups Szemerei To ‘Tucson Today’ Anchor

NBC affiliate KVOA Tucson, Ariz. (DMA 71), has promoted Nichole Szemerei to anchor of Tucson Today.  Szemerei, who has been the traffic reporter on Tucson Today since joining the station in December 2011, will anchor alongside co-anchor John Overall weekday mornings from 5 to 7 a.m, beginning next week.

Szemerei joined KVOA from WCCU Champaign, Ill.  She began her broadcast career with NFL Films and also served as an anchor at KULR Billings, Mont. 

Szemerei is a summa cum laude graduate of Arizona State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and mass communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication.

Filling Szemerei’s role as traffic reporter on the Tucson Today morning team is Melanie Hunter. The University of Arizona graduate joins KVOA from KSNF Joplin, Mo., where she has been an anchor-reporter since 2012. Hunter is expected to join Tucson Today in December.
