KWQC Names Richard Kurz News Director

The longtime KGW Portland, Ore., newsman will now head Media General’s NBC affiliate in Davenport, Iowa.

Media General’s NBC affiliate KWQC Davenport, Iowa (DMA 100), on Friday named Richard Kurz news director for effective March 4.

Since 2006, Kurz has been executive producer and special projects manager for KGW Portland, Ore., where he oversaw a number of daily newscasts as well as the station’s investigative efforts and political content.

From 1999 to 2006, he was a producer for KGW. From 1997 to 1999, he was a producer at KGUN Tucson, Ariz.

He began his career as a copy editor at WTTG Washington.

Kurz has won numerous peer awards including the Associated Press Television and Radio Association 2013 Mark Twain Award and a 2012 Regional Emmy for Best News Special. He is a past recipient of the David Kaplan Fellowship with ABC News.

He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and he has a master’s degree from the Missouri School of Journalism.
