KXAS Dallas Launches JFK Tribute App

The NBC O&O has released an app for the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, that includes extensive archives and rare archived footage from 1963.

KXAS Dallas-Fort Worth has made rare archived footage of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy available through a dedicated smartphone application for the 50th anniversary of the event.

“JFK 50: NBC 5 Remembers” is now available in the iTunes App Store for free. Through the station’s extensive archives, the app offers historical insight into events leading up to and surrounding the day in 1963.

Users can explore interactive maps retracing the route Kennedy’s motorcade took on the day of the assassination and Oswald’s escape path, noting important points along the way. A timeline is also available, detailing the events of each day in Dallas from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27. That information is paired with articles and videos.

Those who download the app will also be able to live stream KXAS’s coverage of the ceremony taking place in memory of Kennedy on Nov. 22, in addition to any related news coverage from the NBC O&O.
