LIN Stations Back On Dish In 17 Markets

The station group and satellite TV operator came to terms on a new retransmission consent deal over the weekend, ending an eight-day disruption of service involving 27 LIN stations in 17 markets. Terms were not disclosed.

The Dish Network restored 27 LIN Media TV stations to its satellite TV service in 17 markets yesterday after the two companaies came to terms on a new retransmission consent deal, the companies announced separately yesterday.

Following a breakdown in negotiations, the LIN stations went dark on Dish at midnight, March 4, with Dish blasting LIN for being “greedy.”

Terms of the new deal were not disclosed.

“We are pleased that our negotiations with Dish Network resulted in fair resolution and a news retransmission consent agreement,” said LIN CEO Vince Sadusky in a statement. “We thank our viewers and our advertisers for their tremendous support.”

The 27 stations include affiliates of all the major broadcast networks.

The affected markets: Albuquerque, N.M.; Austin, Texas; Buffalo, N.Y.; Columbus, Ohio; Dayton, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Grand Rapid, Mich.; Green Bay, Wis.; Indianapolis; Lafayette, Ind.; Mobile, Ala.; New Haven, Conn.; Norfolk, Va.; Providence, R.I.; Springfield, Mass.; Terre Haute, Ind.; and Toledo, Ohio.

Excellent! Again goes to show that market negotiations prevail. The 1992 Retrans Act works just fine. No need for the FCC to get involved at all.
