DMA 16: MIAMI

Louis Aguirre Returns To WPLG News

WPLG, the ABC affiliate in Miami (DMA 16) owned by Berkshire Hathaway, announced Wednesday that Louis Aguirre will return to the station as a reporter and anchor.

He will co-anchor the station’s weekday 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. newscasts and report for the 11 p.m. newscast.

Aguirre began his career in Miami after graduating from the University of Miami in 1988. He worked as reporter and anchor at WPLG from 1989 to 1992.

While at WPLG, Aguirre became one of the few American journalists allowed into Cuba to cover the 30th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis and he had the rare opportunity to interview Fidel Castro.

The Fox News Channel later hired Aguirre for the network’s then-new morning show, Fox and Friends. Aguirre would later spend 14 years at WSVN Miami before relocating to Los Angeles in 2014 to anchor the nationally syndicated program The Insider.

Aguirre will begin his new role at WPLG in September. He will replace WPLG reporter and anchor Victor Oquendo who is leaving the station this summer for a correspondent position with ABC News.
