DMA 4: PHILADELPHIA

Margaret Cronan Named KYW News Director

The news veteran is returning to the CBS Philadelphia O&O to lead the news efforts there and at co-owned WPSG.

CBS Television Stations on Wednesday appointed veteran local news and communications executive Margaret Cronan vice president and news director of its duopoly in Philadelphia (DMA 4) of KYW (CBS) and WPSG (CW). She succeeds Susan Schiller who left in June.

Cronan, who grew up in the Philadelphia area and worked at KYW as an executive producer in the late 1990s, will rejoin the station in her new role on Sept. 22. She has previously was a news director at WBAL Baltimore and WPBF West Palm Beach, Fla., where she oversaw the station’s news department during the 2000 presidential election and historic Florida ballot recount.

Her background in news also includes serving as a senior producer at WNBC New York, and news producer at KCAL Los Angeles and WJZ Baltimore.

During the height of the do-it-yourself television trend, Cronan was executive producer of the children’s version of Trading Spaces for which she was nominated for a National Daytime Emmy Award.

Cronan currently is the chief business development and marketing officer at Dilworth Paxson, a Philadelphia law firm. She has also been director/general manager – television for NAVTEQ/Traffic.com and chief communications officer of the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Cronan is a 1986 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
